Mysore/Mysuru: Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, one of the farmer associations of the State, has welcomed the State Government’s ordinance amending the APMC Act, allowing private players in Agricultural produce markets.
Addressing a press meet at Patrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, the Association State President N.S. Verma said that although the country attained freedom 70 years ago, our farmers do not have the liberty to sell their produce to the buyer of their choice. But the amendment made to the APMC Act will end the monopoly of APMC Markets (Mandis) and enable the farmers to sell their produce at the best prices they are offered. As such the amendment is very much beneficial to the farming community, he said and added that the Sangha welcomes the Government’s decision.
Verma further said that the amendment that facilitates the best market price for farmers will also help in attracting educated youths to farming.
