Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking fulfilment of their demands, farmers under the banner of Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association (headed by Hallikerehundi Bhagyaraj) launched an indefinite stir in front of the new Deputy Commissioner’s office on Bannur road in Siddarthanagar here this morning.

The demands included stipulation of FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) of Rs.4,000 per tonne for Sugarcane this year, unrestricted supply of sugarcane to factories as liked by the growers, declaration of a special package for Banana growers, re-introduction of Akrama-Sakrama scheme for farmers, continuous discharge of water in Kaveri-Kabini-Kapila river canals throughout the year, expedition of works concerning  tank water feeder channels in Nanjangud taluk, restart of Sri Rama Sugar factory in K.R. Nagar taluk with proper agreement and Registration, restricting Banks from seizing tractors and other farm equipment in lieu of default in bank loan repayment, announcement of MSP price for all agricultural produces and farm loan waiver by the State and Central Governments, among others.

Earlier, over a hundred farmers from different parts of Mysuru-

Chamarajanagar districts, who converged in front of Mahadeshwaraswamy temple on Bannur road in Nazarbad, marched in a procession to the DC office, raising slogans seeking fulfilment of their demands, what they claimed is just  and fair.

As the farmers squatted on one side of the busy Bannur road, the Police paved the way for motorists to travel on the other half of the road by regulating traffic movement.

The Association President Hallikerehundi Bhagyaraj, office-bearers Somesh, Basavaraj, Dharanesh and others were present.

The farmers said that they would be submitting a memorandum to the DC  in the afternoon and would continue their indefinite stir until their  demands were met. However, they would withdraw the stir if the District Administration gives concrete assurance on fulfilment of their demands, they pointed out.
