Demanding waiver of farm loans in Nationalised Banks
Mysuru: The farmers will stage a Statewide protest in front of all DC Offices on July 3 to demand waiver of farm loans in Nationalised Banks and a solution to other farming issues.
Announcing this while addressing the media here on Friday, KRRS leader and MLA K.S. Puttannaiah said the State Government had waived off farm loans upto Rs. 50,000 of over 22 lakh farmers amounting to Rs. 8,165 crore in Co-operative Banks.
Likewise, the Union Government should waive off farm loans in Nationalised Banks, he said.
He also urged for implementation of Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Report, stipulation of a remunerative price for all agricultural produce and introduction of a scheme that guarantees an assured income for farmers.
Lashing out at the BJP Government at the Centre for ignoring farmers’ suicide, the MLA warned the Union Government against importing food grains.
Demands Naidu’s apology
Strongly condemning Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu’s reported remarks that seeking farm loan waiver had become a fashion today, he said that Naidu, by his statement, had insulted the entire farming community of the country.
Asking Naidu to pressurise Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing waiver of farm loans in Nationalised Banks,Puttannaiah demanded an apology from the Union Minister for his irresponsible remark that had hurt the sentiments of the farming community.
KRRS office-bearers Suresh, Ramakrishnaiah, Lingapaji, Bommegowda and others were present during the press meet.
