Farmers to stage protest in front of DC Office on June 5

Mysore/Mysuru: Strongly condemning the State Government’s recent amendment to APMC Act and Land Reforms Act and the Centre’s move to privatise the power sector, farmers have planned a massive demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on June 5.

Announcing this at a press meet at Kuvempu Park near Gun House here yesterday, Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association President Kurubur Shanthakumar asserted that the amendment to the APMC Act and Land Reforms Act will spell doom for farmers.

Accusing BJP leaders of practicing double standards, Shanthakumar alleged that while BJP leaders chant Swadeshi Mantra in public, the Government at the same time rolls out red carpet for MNCs which is detrimental to the interests of the country.

Maintaining that the BJP Government has no right to chant Swadeshi Mantra, he slammed the Union Government’s move of privatising the power sector at a time when the farming sector is in deep distress due to lockdown and other factors.

Noting that some farmers had booked marriage halls for conduct of marriage of their siblings, Shanthakumar alleged that the hall owners were refusing to return advance money even though marriages have been cancelled or postponed due to lockdown. He urged the Government to intervene and ensure that the farmers get back their money.

Farmer leaders Devaraj, P.Somashekar, Shankar, Bhagyaraj, Siddesh and others were present.
