Farmers to stage torchlight procession across Karnataka tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: “Urging for the implementation of their demands and also to extend their support  to the agitation being held at New Delhi by Kisan Samyukta Morcha, farmers will stage a torch light procession across the State,” said the President of Federation of Farmers Associations Kurubur Shantakumar at a press conference addressed at  Jaladarshini Guest House in the city, yesterday.

“The farmers will stage protest by taking out torch light procession at all districts and observe tomorrow as a day of farmers anger,” added Kurubur Shantakumar.

Stating that a tractor rally has been organised at Dharwad on Mar.15 as a continuation of farmers struggle, he said that a more intense form of agitation will be launched from there. Charging that the Central Government is suppressing the agitation of farmers who have gathered at New Delhi from different parts of the country including Karnataka, Punjab and Haryana, he said that the Central Government after holding four rounds of discussions with agitating farmers is going back on its assurances and showing anti-farmer attitude.

Farmers are facing lot of hardships because of drought in the State. Hence, Government must direct banks, cooperative societies not to forcibly collect loan arrears from farmers, he said.
