Devotees watching Sri Chamundeshwari Teppotsava at Devikere atop the Chamundi Hill yesterday night

Mysuru: The Chamundeshwari Teppotsava was held amidst huge crowd of devotees at Devikere atop Chamundi Hill last night.

The rituals began yesterday morning at 10 am with Pallakki Utsava of the presiding deity Goddess Chamundeshwari, which passed through the Ratha Street in a procession and reached Devikere at 11 am.

The Devikere premises atop Chamundi Hill, where Sri Chamundeshwari Teppotsava was held last night, had turned into a lake following heavy rains. The large number of devotees who had gathered to witness the annual event had tough time to commute on the slush-filled pathway.

Heavy rains, which began at 6.15 pm caused inconvenience to devotees visiting the hill shrine. The Teppotsava finally began at 7.30 pm. The magnificently decorated Teppa (float) with colourful lights made three rounds in Devikere tank till 8.15 pm. The devotees burst crackers and the Police Band played music on the occasion. After circumambulating  Devikere three times, the idol of the presiding deity was placed in the Golden Pallakki and pujas and rituals were performed. Police had provided tight security on the occasion.

Unexpected heavy downpour, which began at 6.15 pm submerged the surrounding areas of the temple in rainwater. Devotees who had flocked in large numbers took shelter at nearby mantapas and other refuges. Later Rain God showed some mercy and the event began beyond schedule.
