Vastra Utsav till Aug. 7
Mysuru: As part of Varamahalakshmi festival, a 17-day Vastra Utsav-2017 organised jointly by the Union Ministry of Textiles and JSS Urban Haat commenced last evening at the latter’s premises on Ring Road in Hebbal here.
Over 60 weavers, artisans and Co-operative Societies are participating in the Utsav exhibiting cotton and silk sarees in alluring texture and designs, embroidered bedsheets, towels, cushion covers, environment- friendly jewels, dress materials, clay items, bead works, metal works, handloom fabrics, toys, leather craft and many more.
Speaking on the occasion, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr. C.G. Betsurmath said that such fairs would encourage artisans from all over the country and added that such programmes would be held throughout the year.
The Utsav was inaugurated by Girish, Director and Commissioner, Department of Handloom and Textiles. JSS Technical Education Director Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Joint Director (Projects) B.R. Umakanth, Rangayana Deputy Director Nirmala Matapathi, Journalist Vishweshwara Bhat and others were present.
The Vastra Utsav is open for festival shoppers daily from 10 am to 9 pm till Aug 7.
