Mysuru: Finally, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has started removing waste items from its cellar and the shifting process started Wednesday evening. The Civic Body was setting a bad example for people by converting its own building basement parking lot into a dumpyard and Star of Mysore had on Sept. 14 published the news under the title ‘MCC turns basement parking into dumpyard.’
The report had highlighted how the situation at MCC basement was bad where officers and employees were scared to enter the place as there were a couple of snakes that have taken shelter there. The basement was designed while constructing a new building for Election Section. Initially, employees used to park their vehicles at the basement.
But gradually, the place turned a dumpyard for furniture, unused materials, Swachh Bharat dustbins, iron rods and sheets, benches, tables, chairs, files, shelves, old vehicles, ornamental lamp posts, pipes, ladders and even metal advertisement hoardings. In the absence of parking facility at the basement, employees used to park their vehicles around the compound and there was hardly any space for Corporators and public to park.
Following the publication of the report, the MCC authorities got into the act and began clearing the waste. The contract for lifting the unused items was given to a scrap dealer. Once the waste is shifted, the basement will be painted and the space will be allocated for employees to park their vehicles.
