Fire destroys trees, plants at RIE campus, Chamundi Hill

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate fire incidents, trees and plants were destroyed in accidental fire at Regional Institute of Education (RIE) premises and Chamundi Hill yesterday.

Passersby, who noticed fire at RIE premises at about 12.30 pm, immediately informed the Fire Station and soon two Fire vehicles from Saraswathipuram Fire Brigade and one from Hebbal Fire Brigade rushed to the spot along with more than 15 fire personnel and succeeded in extinguishing the fire. But the fire had destroyed plants and trees in about 30 acres of land there.

Station Officer Nagaraj Urs, Assistant Fire Officer Raju and staff Shivappa, Devaraj, Manjunath, Feroz Khan, Nandan, Sunil, Shivaramu, Lakshman and others took part in the operation.

In the second incident, fire was noticed near Nandi Statue at about 5 pm yesterday and a fire extinguishing vehicle, which rushed to the spot, managed to douse the fire and prevented it from spreading further.

With summer fast approaching, grass and plants tend to dry up and a small spark can ignite fire which can destroy large portion of land with plants, trees and grass.

Public are urged to be responsible and not throw half smoked cigarettes or beedies or cook food in dried up areas as it may cause fire.
