A man suffered injuries and a coconut tree caught fire in two separate fire mishaps which took place in city.
In the first incident, which took place in the residence of one Vasu, located adjacent to Chamundeshwari Temple in Sharadevinagar, on Monday (Mar. 20) at about 6 pm, Vasu suffered burn injuries on his face and arms when he tried to douse the fire that broke out while cooking.
It is reported that Vasu’s wife had put cooking oil in a vessel and had placed it on the stove besides turning the stove to high flame resulting in boiling of oil and spilling on the stove.
As a result, the oil which was spilled on the stove caught fire and the gas pipe connecting the LPG cylinder to the stove melted resulting in the regulator catching fire. Meanwhile, Vasu, out of shock and not knowing how to douse the fire, poured water on boiling oil which resulted in the hot oil splashing on Vasu’s face resulting in burns.
Later, the Fire and Emergency Services personnel were informed, who rushed to the spot and doused the fire thus preventing further damage.
Vasu has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
In the second incident, a coconut tree near Maramma Temple in Vontikoppal last night, was charred when fire fragments from fireworks, displayed during Mari Habba, fell on the coconut tree, destroying it.
Soon, fire personnel of Hebbal and Saraswathipuram Fire Stations were informed, who rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.
