Mysore/Mysuru: Naagi, the Jenu Kuruba tribal youth from H.D. Kote, who has the distinction of being the first degree holder in her community, is all set to crack KPSC exam this year.
Jenu Kuruba tribes are one of the vulnerable tribal groups in Karnataka. Living in the remote tribal hamlets of H.D. Kote taluk, education is still a remote possibility for these tribals due to lack of access to resources and other such support services.
Amidst these hurdles, Naagi has been able to earn a Bachelor’s Degree and is now dreaming of getting a Government job.
Hailing from Gowdamachana Halli hamlet (also known as GM Halli Hadi), about 17 km from H.D. Kote, Naagi is the daughter of Chinnappa and holds Bachelor Degree in Arts with History, Economics and Political Science (HEP) as major subjects.
After completing her primary education in GM Halli Hadi Primary School and High School in Metikuppe Government High School, Naagi pursued PUC and graduation in H.D. Kote Government PU and Degree College. She has secured second class by scoring a total of 2,234 marks in Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree out of 3,800 marks.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, her father Chinnappa said, “From the last six months, the only bus, which used to ply in this area, has stopped due to COVID-19 pandemic. We are now dependent on goods auto to travel to H.D. Kote. My daughter has applied for a Government job and is working hard to clear the exam. We need somebody to provide proper guidance and support to fulfil her dreams.”
Vice-President of Jana Sangrama Parishat Prasanna said, “Her determination is really admirable. GM Halli Hadi, which is her native, is a tribal hamlet bordering Nagarahole Tiger Reserve. In spite of all such difficulties, she has successfully completed her degree course. She is now aiming to take up KPSC exam and is very determined to get a Government job. What she now needs is right strategy, proper guidance and support. We are seeking help from the District Administration to guide Naagi.”
