First round of pulse polio tomorrow

The first round of pulse polio campaign will take place across the district tomorrow (April 2). DC D. Randeep, who held a meeting in this regard at his office here on Thursday, said that the first round of the campaign will be held from April 2 to 5 and the second round from April 30 to May 3.

Parents of children aged below 5 years should take their children to the nearest polio centre on April 2 and get polio drops administered. The pulse polio volunteers will conduct door to door visit for administration of polio drops from April 3 to 5, he said.

Continuing, the DC said that 1,588 polio booths have been set up across the district.

The administration aims to cover 2,98,694 children, focussing more on high-risk areas, slums, under-construction buildings, migrant labourer areas etc.,he added.

Paediatrician Dr. Narayanappa said that the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared India as polio-free country on Mar. 27, 2014.

Asserting that the pulse polio drops will in no way affect children, he asked the parents to compulsory administer polio drops to children below 5 years.

DHO Dr. Basavaraj, District RCH Officer Dr. Gopinath and others were present.
