Bengaluru: Even as the dispute over the deaths of five women in post-partum period due to the administration of IV fluid after delivering babies through C-section in Ballari Medical College and Research Centre (BMCRC) refuses to die, it has come to light that, five more women died in Raichur and Chitradurga hospitals owing to similar reasons.
Four among the women died at Sindhanur Taluk Hospital in Raichur district in October this year. They have been identified as Chandrakala (26), Renukamma (32), Mousami Mandal (22) and Channamma (25).
Among 300 women, who had delivered in the month of October, four women, who had delivered through C-section, had met their untimely end. While seven other women suffered serious health complications.
Channamma, who had delivered a male baby on Oct. 21, had died nine days later, while Mousami had breathed her last, a day after the delivery on Oct. 22. Renukamma had delivered on Oct. 31, but died a day later. All these deaths occurred at Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and the relatives of the deceased blamed medical negligence causing their deaths.
The aggrieved relatives, who demanded compensation for the next of the kin of the deceased, have warned of staging a protest along with the newborns in front of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, if the authorities failed to adhere to the demand.
Deputy Commissioner of Raichur K. Nitish said, whether the reason behind their deaths were due to IV fluids can be ascertained with a report expected in this regard within one week.
Amid this, a woman named Roja (24) of Jaganur Hatti near Challakere, died in Chitradurga District Hospital. She had delivered a male baby through C-section on Oct. 30 and had been discharged from the hospital after five days.
However, she developed stomach ache 40 days later resulting in severe vomiting. She was admitted to Chitradurga Hospital, where she died.
