Mysore/Mysuru: On the eve of the Dasara Festivities, Mysuru Nayakara Pade offered floral tributes to Veeragallu (Hero Stones) at Veeranagere here.
On the 14th day of Mahalaya Paksha (Chaturdashi), there is a tradition to perform Pinda Pradhana, Tarpana, Ellu Neeru and offer Ede to our deceased ancestors. But it is rare to show our gratitude to our heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect us and our land. M. Ramakrishna of Paduvarahalli is an exception and he is observing this special event over the years.
Veeranagare is a historic place to be written in Golden Letters of erstwhile Mysore kingdom. There are hundreds of Veeragallu and Mahasati Kallu. These stones and pillars are the epitome of sacrifices, heroism of warriors who sacrificed their lives for the Mysore kingdom and for the safety of the people. Hero Stones are the fond memories, which depict the heroism and the sacrifices of our warriors to the entire world.
On the occasion of Ghatha Chaturdashi (for those who died from weapons), these heroes are offered floral tributes to express gratitude.
Dr. Shelvapillai Iyengar, Head of Department of Ancient History and Archaeological Studies, KSOU, explained about the heroes of Veeranagere. He offered floral tributes to the heroes of Veeranagere and appealed to the State Government to protect the historic place.
