Come Shravana, the festive season is on and the festivities aren’t complete without the music programmes. Raaga Music Academy is celebrating Sri Krishna Jayanti on Saturday the 8th, with Vid. Krishna Pawan Kumar giving a flute recital from 6pm to 8pm at Prajna Kuteera, Vishwamanava Double Road, Kuvempunagar.
Pawan Kumar is a rare artiste who is a practitioner/performer of three streams of music — vocal and two instruments, flute and the mridanga. He has managed all these along with his academics with great distinction. He took his initial lessons from his grandmother Vidu. U. Sathyavathi, Vid. K.H. Ravikumar (mridanga) and Vid. Gopalakrishna Iyer (flute). A prodigy, he learnt the intricacies of music with much ease from a very tender age. The Government of Karnataka gave him scholarships for both flute and mridanga in recognition of his talent.
This multidimensional artiste has won many accolades and awards like the Exceptional Talent Award and the Bala Prathibhe from the Government of Karnataka, Young Achiever award from the Rotary International, Kalashree etc. Various musicologists have hailed his talent. On Saturday, he is being accompanied by Vid. Mysore Sumanth Manjunath on the violin and Vid. Sai Shivu Lakshmi Keshav on the mridanga.
Prior to this concert, students of Vidu. Koviladi Kala will be singing in groups, as the Mahapuja goes on between 5 pm and 6 pm.
