Mysuru: Just as one is concerned about diabetes, heart attacks and hyper tension, people should also be focused on equally debilitating diseases like brain disorders that leads to depression, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s, said Scientist Raghu Padiranjan.
He was speaking on the subject “New technology in detecting brain diseases,” as part of the ‘Science Cafe’ programme organised jointly in association with CFTRI (Central Food Technological Research Institute) and Life Sciences Cluster at Suruchi Rangamane in Kuvempunagar here on Sunday.
As one grows older, it is natural to find that problems related to brain appear. However, if it is checked in the early stages itself then it is possible to find solutions to such problems, he said.
Today there is huge development in technology and it is possible to examine the conditions of the nerves in the brain. The technology helps in directly pointing to the nervous system in the brain and helps in finding the changes. This in turn will help in preventing the spread of diseases, said Padiranjan.
Later, Prof. Varadrajan Sundarmurthy, speaking on the topic ‘Unseen Killers,’ said that TB is found in most of the people in the respiratory system. This disease is caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis bacteria. This disease which cannot be traced with the naked eye cannot even be treated in a few cases. Hence, one must take precautionary measures.
TB is being reported more in the age group of 15 to 45 years and due to lack of information, many are not getting proper treatment and are succumbing to TB. Hence, as soon as there is a suspicion about TB, one must immediately go to a hospital and compulsorily take treatment for six months. Otherwise the disease will spread in the respiratory tracts resulting in death, he warned.
Life Sciences Cluster Liaison Officer Moin Ali Khan and CFTRI Information and Publicity Department’s Raghu were present.
