Footpath vendors evicted; return in just one hour !

Mysuru:  As part of a drive to clear encroachments on city footpaths, the MCC evicted street vendors on Sayyaji Rao road last evening.

Following numerous public complaints that vendors had occupied both sides of the footpath near Devaraja Market on Sayyaji Rao Road, thus hindering pedestrian movement, the MCC officials accompanied by Abhaya team, evicted the vendors on the footpaths.

But within an hour of eviction, the street vendors returned again and occupied stretches of the footpath along Sayyaji Rao Road, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, the staff attached to Abhaya team, said that the drive has been going on for the past three days, under instruction from the MCC authorities.

But the evicted vendors reoccupy the footpath and this has become a big problem.

The authorities should take stringent measures to end this menace, they said and added that the drive would be of no use if the higher authorities do not take stringent action against footpath encroachers.
