Mysore/Mysuru: Following the eviction drive against footpath vendors, over 50 vendors met Mayor Shivakumar at his Office in Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) here yesterday.
In their appeal, the footpath vendors told Mayor that “We are eking out a living by doing business on footpaths as we cannot afford to take shops on rent. We will carry out business without inconveniencing the public. Please don’t create trouble for us.”
In his reply, Mayor Shivakumar said, “We won’t allow business on footpaths in the wake of rise in accidents involving pedestrians, who are forced to hit the road due to lack of adequate space on footpaths.”
The Mayor also warned that fine will be imposed on vendors if they repeat their business encroaching upon footpath space.
On the other hand, MCC has continued the eviction drive of vendors who had been doing business encroaching upon the footpath space. Yesterday too the footpath vendors were evicted on Old Bank Road, Sayyaji Rao Road and near Town Hall.
