Forcible collection of admission fee in full: SC/ST students stage protest

Mysore/Mysuru: Led by Karnataka State Research Scholars Association President Maridevaiah, SC/ST students of Maharaja and Yuvaraja Colleges, staged a protest in front of Crawford Hall on Tuesday urging the Mysore University authorities not to force them to make full payment of admission fee.

“The Colleges of University of Mysore are demanding payment of  full admission fees for the 1st year degree students from SC/ST students for the year 2022-23. In addition, students of second and third degrees of the University are also being asked to pay their fees even if they have not received  scholarships. This directive issued by the Vice-Chancellor (VC) must be withdrawn immediately”, they urged.

“As per the directions of Government, the University cannot forcibly collect admission fees. Also, the Social Welfare Department has instructed the Universities not to mandatorily collect admission fee in full. As such, the University authorities should allow admissions based on the Government and Social Welfare Department orders” the students argued.

Later, the students withdrew their protest after VC Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar visited them and assured that a direction will be issued to constituent  Colleges asking them not to force students from SC/ST communities for payment of fee in full during admission.

State Researchers Association President S. Maridevaiah, students Amogha, Kemparaju, Alanahalli Anand, Siddarth, Mohan, Abhishek, Rohit, Ranjita, Pushpa, Manjula and others participated in the protest.
