Mysuru: All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) former Director and former dean of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) Dr. M. Jayaram is the recipient of the newly instituted ‘Ganga-Godavari Oration Award Early Care of Hearing’ by the Speech and Hearing Association of Nepal.
The award will be conferred on Dr. Jayaram at the second anniversary of the Speech and Hearing Association of Nepal to be held in Kathmandu tomorrow (Apr.5).
Profile: Dr. M. Jayaram completed his Master’s degree, with distinction, at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore in 1974.
He went on to complete his Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1980. Incidentally, he happens to be the first one to get a Ph.D. in the field of speech and hearing in India.
He began his career at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in 1983 before going to NIMHANS in 1986 to head the department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. He is now a Senior Professor at NIMHANS.
In between, he went to AIISH as its Director in April 2000 in which post he served with distinction till July 2006.
He is the first alumnus of AIISH to become its Director.
