Former Chief Election Comr. T.S. Krishna Murthy to lecture at SDM-IMD

Mysuru: As part of its Foundation Day, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDM-IMD) has organised a lecture by T.S. Krishna Murthy, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, at SDM-IMD auditorium on Chamundi Hill Road here on Aug. 22 at 4 pm.

Padma Bhushan Dr. Devi Shetty, a well-known Cardiologist and Founder of Narayana Hrudayalaya; Dr. Harish Hande, CEO of SELCO India and Ramon Magsaysay Awardee; S. Sivakumar, Group Head – Agri & IT Businesses, ITC; Vivek Kulkarni, Founder-Managing Director, Brickwork Ratings, had delivered the Foundation Day lectures in the earlier series.

T. S. Krishna Murthy, former Chief Election Commissioner, holds Bachelor’s degree in Economics from University of Mysore; Bachelor of Law from the University of Madras; and Master’s degree in Fiscal Studies from the University of Bath,UK.

Krishna Murthy was appointed as the Election Commissioner on 30th January 2000 after his long stint of more than 36 years in civil service. Earlier, he worked as Secretary, Department of Company Affairs, Government of India (1997- 2000) and later as Election Commissioner (2000-2004). He served as Chief Election Commissioner of India during February 2004 – May 2005. He was responsible for conducting the Parliament election in 2004 deploying Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) throughout the country for the first time.   

He commenced his career as a Probationary Officer in the Bank of India Limited in 1961. He joined the Indian Revenue Service in 1963. After having worked in various capacities in the Income Tax Department, he worked as Commissioner of Income Tax, Chennai, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Bombay and Director General of Income Tax (Administration), New Delhi.  

He was appointed by the Supreme Court to supervise the conduct of BCCI election. Ministry of Sports, Government of India also appointed him as One-Man Committee to go into a dope allegation of a sports person selected for Olympics. His report in this regard had made some vital suggestions to improve sports administration in India.

Krishna Murthy has written a book on democracy based on his Indian and International experience under the title ‘Miracle of Democracy: India’s amazing journey” (Harper Collins India).
