Mandya: In an effort to combat the COVID crisis in his native district Mandya, former CM S.M. Krishna has come forward to donate 100 jumbo oxygen cylinders and 10,000 masks.
In a statement released yesterday, former External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said, “Mandya district is facing a huge scarcity of oxygen cylinders. The associates of patients are pleading for oxygen to save the lives of loved ones. We are under deep crisis. Innumerable human lives are at stake. We all must come together and help those in need by doing our bit. Mandya district, at present, is having just 303 beds with oxygen facility and needs 150 more oxygenated beds.”
Meanwhile, Health Minister Sudhakar has assured the district administration to supply 7 KL oxygen from Ballari, which is yet to reach Mandya district.
Extending his support to fight the life-threatening virus, S.M. Krishna has already placed orders to purchase 100 oxygen cylinders and has also decided to distribute 10,000 face masks in Mandya.
It may be recalled that S.M. Krishna had come to the rescue of Mandya farmers in 2016 when over 500 farmers had ended their lives for not being able to repay their loan amounts. At that time, S.M. Krishna had extensively travelled across the Mandya district to talk to the farmers and provide financial aids to the needy.
Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) and all other taluk hospitals require continuous oxygen supply. “I am donating 100 jumbo oxygen cylinders for the benefit of infected patients. 10,000 masks will also be distributed to the frontline workers,” former CM S.M. Krishna said.
