Former Chamarajanagar MP and Congress Leader Kagalawadi M. Shivanna joined the BJP in the presence of State BJP President B.S. Yeddyurappa at Shindanapura in the taluk this morning.
Yeddyurappa was campaigning at Shindanapura, when Shivanna, who had announced his plans of quitting the Congress a couple of days ago, formally joined the party and also took part in the campaign.
Yeddyurappa welcomed Shivanna into the party by presenting him the party flag.
Shivanna who was elected from Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha seat in 2004 on a JD(S) ticket, later quit the party to join the Congress in 2009.
The UPA Government headed by the Congress, appointed Shivanna as Chairman of Central Safai Karmachari Commission, a post he held till 2014.
