Bengaluru: Three former MLAs and former Mysuru Mayor joined Congress party in the presence of KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar, Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Assembly Siddharamaiah and other top leaders of the party here on Tuesday last.
Former Kollegal (SC Reserve Constituency) BJP MLA G.N. Nanjundaswamy, former Nagathana (SC Reserve, Vijayapura district) MLA Manohar Ainapur and former Doddaballapur MLA J. Narasihmaswamy and former Mysuru Mayor Purushotham were formally inducted by handing over the Congress Party flag.
Nanjundaswamy had been elected to the Legislative Assembly on a BJP ticket in the 2009 by-poll, while Manohar Ainapur was the BJP MLA from Nagathan after winning the election in 1998. However, he contested as an independent from the same Constituency in 2013 and had also won. Narasimhaswamy had successfully contested the election from Congress ticket in 2008.
Former Mayor Purushotham, who was with the Congress earlier, had later defected to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council B.K. Hariprasad, KPCC Working President Saleem Ahmed, former Ministers Rajashekar Patil and Priyank Kharge were present on the occasion.
