New Delhi: Former Union Minister Buta Singh passed away in New Delhi this morning at the age of 86. Singh, a senior Congress leader, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he was in a state of comatose after suffering a brain hemorrhage. His family said he died at around 7.10 am.
Singh was born in Jalandhar, Punjab. He served as Lok Sabha MP for eight terms from the Jalore constituency in Rajasthan. Singh was first associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), but later joined the Congress in the 1960s. He also served as the Governor of Bihar.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu and PM Modi were among those who expressed their condolences.
