Mysore/Mysuru: In a bid to end the confusion among stakeholders about the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), the Forum of Former Vice-Chancellors of Karnataka (FFVCK) will be holding a conference in the city next month.
Announcing this at a press meet at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri campus here on Monday, Forum President and former University of Mysore (UoM) and KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa said that the Conference will be held at Manasagangothri in association with UoM in October.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has given his consent for inaugurating the Conference but the date is yet to be finalised, he said.
Pointing out that Vice-Chancellors of various Universities of the State, College Principals and faculties and students will be taking part in the Conference, he observed that NEP is a good policy aimed at transforming and upgrading the education system in our country.
Highlighting the issues that would be discussed at the meeting, he said that the Conference will focus on bringing uniformity and use of advanced technologies in education.
The suggestions, inputs and other valuable observations and views that come up at the Conference will be forwarded to the Government for due consideration, he added.
Referring to the delay in the appointment of Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Rangappa said that the process for searching a new Vice-Chancellor should begin at least three months before the retirement of the incumbent VC.
“A new Vice-Chancellor should be appointed as soon as the incumbent retires. The Search Committee should have academic experts and the incumbent Vice-Chancellor of any University should not find a place in the Committee for any reason,” he contended.
Calling for holding of Convocations twice a year as this would help students for pursuing higher studies or finding jobs much quicker, he stressed on the need for filling up teaching and non-teaching staff posts in Universities that are lying vacant for long.
FFVCK Immediate Past President Prof. S.N. Hegde and Joint Secretary Prof. S.R. Niranjana were present at the press meet.
