Foundation demands clearance of Poornaiah Canal encroachment

Mysore/Mysuru: The Rashtrakanthi Foundation has urgently demanded the clearance of encroachments on the Poornaiah Canal.

During a recent press conference, Foundation President G.M. Mahadeva highlighted that despite a 2017 High Court order mandating the removal of encroachments on the Poornaiah Canal, the District Administration has inexplicably delayed action.

Spanning 22 kilometres and traversing through Bogadi, Basavanahalli, Dasanakoppalu, Maratikyathanahalli, Hinkal, Madahalli, Huyilalu, and other areas, the canal is estimated to be a public asset valued at over  Rs. 1,200 crore.

However, affluent individuals have encroached upon it over  decades, rendering the High Court’s order ineffective. Numerous appeals to authorities for the clearance of encroachments have fallen on deaf ears, lamented Mahadeva.

He implored the Government to initiate disciplinary action against those responsible for the delays and enforce the removal of encroachments as per the High Court’s directive.

Foundation members D. Manjunath, C. Kumaraswamy and M.B. Kumaraswamy were present at the press conference.
