Mysuru: Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), in association with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) and Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) – Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is organising its 8th International Food Convention 2018 (IFCoN 2018) with the focal theme “Holistic Approaches for Start up, Food Innovation and Human Resource Training for Agriculture and Food Industry Gemmation” (HASHTAG) at CFTRI premises from Dec.12 to 15.
FSSAI CEO Pawan Kumar Agarwal will inaugurate IFCON 2018 at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Convocation Hall tomorrow (Dec.12) at 2.30 pm. Anand Chordia, MD, Suhana Pravin Masalewala, Pune, will inaugurate the Food Expo and CFTRI Director KSMS Raghava Rao will inaugurate the Poster Session.
“After the inauguration, the main events will all be held at CFTRI premises. The 8th IFCoN is planned to have about 25 technical sessions spread over four days of the conference. Nearly 2,400 delegates, including about 100 internationally recognised speakers from research and academic institutes, industry, government and autonomous bodies, and students from food science and technology institutes across the globe, are expected to present talks during the four-day IFCON event,” said IFCoN Organising Secretary Aashitosh A. Inamdar, speaking to Star of Mysore, here this morning.
The Food Expo will be free for public on Dec.13 and 14. The entry is from the north side gate, near Akashvani. There are 85 stall with food and allied industries participating. The public by attending the Expo can get acquainted with knowledge and opportunity in the food industry, he said.
The four-day mega event is an ideal platform for the deliberation, networking, and the exchange of knowledge and partnerships between global stakeholders for addressing the issues related to the societal outreach, industrial, research and academic collaborations, he said.
“The platforms will be provided for the presentation of original research works in the Oral as well as Poster Sessions. Annual AFST(I) Awards will be presented to the achievers in the field of Food Science and Technology during the inaugural function and the highly popular Best Oral and the Poster Presentations will be awarded during the valedictory function of the conference. Prabodh Halde is the Organising Committee Chairman,” said Aashitosh. The mega event IFCoN 2018, which is held once in five years, started one year back after taking permission from the Ministry of Food Processing, he said.
