In an endeavour to promote the game of hockey, Hockey Mysore will be organising a four-day Invitation Cup State-level Hockey Tournament from Dec. 20 to 23 at University Hockey grounds (Maharaja’s Grounds) in city.
Announcing this at a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan here this morning, Hockey Mysore President K.B. Dilip said that MCDCC Bank President G.D. Harish Gowda will inaugurate the tournament at 4 pm on Dec. 20. He said this was the biggest tournament taking place in city in the past 10 years and added that 12 district teams including Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Gadag and Shivamogga have been invited to take part in the tournament.
Stating that league matches will be played on the first two days (Dec. 20 and 21) of the tournament, Dilip said that the semi-final matches will be played on Dec. 22 and finals on Dec. 23. The valedictory and prize distribution will be held at 4 pm on Dec. 23.
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, MP Pratap Simha and MLA L. Nagendra will be the guests of honour. The tournament is expected to attract the best talents in mofussil districts.
He further said that all the teams will be provided accommodation and food. The top four teams will be presented cash prizes and trophies. The first prize winning team will get Rs. 1 lakh, the second prize winner Rs. 50,000, third prize winner Rs. 30,000 and 4th prize winner Rs. 20,000.
