Mysuru: Family Planning Association of India (FPAIndia), Mysuru branch, observed World AIDS Day-2018 in collaboration with DAPCO (District AIDS Prevention and Control Officer), IMA Mysuru, Ashodaya Network, Ananda Jyothi Positive Network, SVYM (Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement) and Ashakirana, at Farooqia College of Pharmacy, Tilak Nagar recently.
The programme started off with a rally followed by a Street Play and a Dandiya Dance showing the consequences of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and the need to prevent AIDS (Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome).
A lecture was delivered by Shaheen Taj, Counsellor of FPAIndia, on HIV/AIDS and its transmission and symptoms to the employees of Shahi Exports Private Limited at its premises in Koorgalli.
She explained how the disease is transmitted through multiple sex partners. There is no medicine for AIDS which is life-threatening. Therefore, prevent it from getting it, she said.
Three separate sessions were held covering about 2,100 workers who attended talk. She also spoke about safe relationship to avoid STI transmission (Sexually Transmitted Infections), to adopt Family Planning methods, to involve male for permanent method of male sterilisation etc. Kotresh, Senior Executive-HR of Shahi Exports, presided over the programme.
