Fraudster collects debit card details, cheats Head Constable of Rs. 1.48 lakh

Mandya: An online fraudster has cheated a Head Constable to the tune of Rs. 1.48 lakh after collecting the Policeman’s debit card details.

The Head Constable, who has been cheated, is 46-year-old Sudhakar, attached to Pandavapura Police Station and residing at Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) Quarters at Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS).

Sudhakar, who has a Savings Bank (SB) account at State Bank of India (SBI), had also taken a credit card but was not using it. On Nov. 11, Sudhakar received a call from Mob: 83890-01570 and the caller, who said that he was from the SBI Credit Card Division, told Sudhakar, that tax amount was being deducted from his credit card. When Sudhakar told the caller that he was not using his credit card, the caller told him to tell his credit card number so that he could cancel the credit card. Believing him, Sudhakar told the caller that he does not know where he has kept the card and told him that he would search for it. But the caller told Sudhakar, to give his debit card number so that he could track his credit card.

But as soon as Sudhakar gave details of his debit card, a total of Rs. 1,48,500 was deducted in 3 phases in a few minutes, following which Sudhakar lodged a complaint with Mandya’s CEN Police.
