Mysuru: Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Director Dr. C.N. Manjunath has said that one’s health is in one’s own hands. If one abstains from smoking and drinking then good health can be maintained.
He was speaking to the patients at the free Angioplasty workshop organised by the Medtronics America and Dr. Govindaraju Subramani Heart Foundation, Wisconsin, at Jaydeva Heart Hospital in K.R. Hospital premises here recently and said that in this workshop, 140 patients in Bengaluru and 60 in Mysuru were provided free treatment.
Nearly Rs.3 crore has been spent on this and America’s Subramani Heart Foundation has given Rs. 2.25 crore. “The patients should not stop taking medicine for any reason. If you stop it, you will get a heart attack again. It is also important to keep diabetes under control and one should stop smoking beedis and cigarettes,” advised Dr. Manjunath.
Reacting to the many questions on angioplasty by the patients, he said that one should not consume oily foods. One should walk every day and should not get angry. Consume more vegetables, eat timely food, and take medicines on time.
The Jayadeva Heart Hospital in Mysuru has treated 36,565 patients so far and 4,14,304 outpatients have been treated. Angioplasty has been performed on 6,932 people, 2,62,548 had got ECG test done and 1,59,511 have undergone Echo test, he said and lauded the efforts of all the doctors and the team.
