Future India Talks Series at CFTRI tomorrow

Mysuru/Mysore: To bring scientists of international repute face-to-face with the students of the city, CSIR-CFTRI has been organising public lecture series titled “Future India Talks.” The second talk of the series, a lecture on “Why evolution is central to biology and our lives?” will be held on Feb. 13 at Cheluvamba Hall, CFTRI premises here at 11.30 am.

Prof.  Amitabh Joshi, Professor, Evolutionary Biology and Organismal Biology, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru, will deliver the lecture.

Evolution is a rather neglected field in India despite the fact that some of the most significant Indian contributions to the growth of biological knowledge have come from our small community of ecologists and evolutionary biologists. There is a tendency in many quarters to dismiss evolutionary biology as “merely a theory” and fundamentally flawed. This talk will address some of these misconceptions about evolution and show that evolutionary biology is a very well-established and verified body of scientific knowledge. It will also highlight some of the significant Indian contributions to the development of evolutionary thinking in recent times.

Dr. KSMS Raghavarao, Director, CSIR-CFTRI, will preside.
