Mysore/Mysuru: Kumara Vyasa Gurukula, Mysuru, is organising a ‘Gamaka Kaavya Vaachana’ programme at the residence of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Mysore K. Vasudevacharya in city on July 17.
Vid. Krisnagiri Ramachandra will be singing Kumara Vyasa Bharata’s ‘Bhishma Bhakti’ while Dr. Jyothi Shankar will give the ‘vyakhyaana.’
The programme, dedicated to the memory of Venkatachalaiah and Rajalakshamma, is scheduled to begin at 10.30 am and is open to all.

Gamaki K. Ramachandra, a Hydraulics engineer by profession, has been among the few in the State who have strived to conserve and promote the art form of Gamaka, a performing art that aims to convey the essence of traditional scholarly poetry to the common man through classical melodies and interpretation in a simple language.
Ramachandra inherited the art from his father Krishna Rao and has been performing across the State and in overseas platforms, for over five decades. He has taught many aspiring Gamakis and has organised numerous programmes.
He has written many articles and has contributed to publications on Gamaka. He has been honoured with many awards, including the Karnataka Governments annual ‘Kumaravyasa Award’.
Serving presently as a Professor at Karnataka State Open University, Dr. Jyothi Shankar has been well-known in Kannada literary field as a scholar par excellence. She has secured a D.Litt. for her work on ‘Daasa Saahitya and Carnatic Music’ and Ph.D for her work on ‘Veerashaiva Poetry.’ She has authored over 25 books and presented many series of lectures on AIR and at renowned platforms. She is also a visiting professor at the American Society for Indian Studies.
