Gandhi Shilp Bazaar at JSS Mysore Urban Haat

Handicrafts & Handloom Expo-cum-Sale from Aug. 2 to 8

Mysore/Mysuru: The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is tirelessly working for the development, prosperity and survival of Indian handicrafts through various programmes.

To connect artisans with art enthusiasts, the Department is organising several events in city. One such significant event, Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, a Handicrafts and Handloom Exhibition-cum-Sale will be held at JSS Mysore Urban Haat in Hebbal from Aug. 2 to 8.

It aims to provide a direct  marketing platform for artisans from across the country to showcase their masterpieces to Mysuru’s art lovers. Around 50 to 60 award-winning artisans will display their innovative designs, catering to local tastes and preferences. The exhibition will feature a wide range of handicrafts, including wood carving, stone sculpture, bronze idols, earthen pottery, paper art, carpets, cotton jamaka, imitation jewellery and many more.

This event will be inaugurated tomorrow at 4 pm by MLA G.T. Devegowda. Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, will preside. G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Deputy Commissioner, Mysuru; B.K. Shivakumar, Director (Exports) & Managing Director, VTPC, Bengaluru; Shankarappa, Director, General Administration Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha; M. Prabhakaran, Regional Director, O/o DCH, Ministry of Textiles, Chennai and K.S. Sunilkumar, Assistant Director, HSC, O/o DCH, Ministry of Textiles,  will be the chief guests.

The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar exhibition and sale will be open for visitors from 10.30 am to 9 pm daily.
