Gang loots gold worth Rs. 1.24 crore from Mysuru jeweller’s staff

Incident takes place near Basaralu in Mandya

Mandya: A gang of six miscreants have reportedly looted gold ornaments worth more than Rs. 1.24 crore belonging to a Mysuru jeweller after assaulting and spraying chemicals on the car occupants near Basaralu in Mandya yesterday evening.

The owner of Rishab Jewellers in Mysuru, who had taken the contract of supplying gold ornaments to various jewellery stores in Mandya, Basaralu, Jakkanahalli, Keregodu and other places,  had sent two of his staff along with gold ornaments that was to be delivered in a car.

After delivering gold ornaments to gold stores in Jakkanahalli and Basaralu, the two persons were proceeding on Mandya-Basaralu Road to deliver the gold ornaments to jewellery shops in Keregodu. When they came to Gantagowdanahalli Gate, four miscreants who came in a car waylaid the car in which gold ornaments were being transported. The miscreants were soon joined by two others, who came on a bike.

The miscreants allegedly smashed the glass windows of the car and hit the two staff of Mysuru jewellery store on their head with iron rods and punched the staff on the stomach. They later sprayed chemicals on the faces of the staff, which rendered them unconscious and looted gold jewellery before fleeing from the spot.

Following information from the public, the Police, who reached the spot, admitted the injured  to a hospital. Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Yatish, Dy.SP Manjunath, ASP Venugopal, Circle Inspector Kyathegowda, Keregodu Sub-Inspector Ramesh visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police said that the jewellery store in Mysuru was supplying gold ornaments such as nose studs, earrings and other such ornaments to various shops in rural places since many years and suspected that miscreants who had observed this may have committed the crime.

Pointing out that the staff of the Mysuru jewellery store was being treated at a hospital, the Police said that the staff will be questioned once they recover and get discharged from the Hospital.

Police said that two special Police teams have been formed to trace and nab the miscreants.
