Periyapatna: Many Girijana Haadis (Tribal Hamlets) in the taluk have been receiving contaminated drinking water from the past several days and the apathetic attitude of the officials concerned have only compounded the problems of tribals.
More than 100 tribals living in Maralukatte Girijana Haadi have been suffering from untold misery as the hamlet has no basic amenities.
Even as the plight of tribals continues to remain ignored by the officials, PVTG Samithi member Madhukumar has urged the authorities to immediately address the problems faced by the tribals and to issue individual title deeds to them.
Pointing out that the tribals of this hamlet, which comes under Muttur Gram Panchayat, he said that tribals have been living in this hamlet located in the fringes of the forest, for over 30 years.
Explaining how the water gets contaminated at the hamlet, he urged the Government to set up a drinking water plant at the hamlet and provide other civic amenities.
Madhukumar further alleged that Periyapatna MLA K. Venkatesh, who has been representing the constituency for years, had shown little interest in addressing the problems of tribals.
Meanwhile, Muttur GP PDO Manjunath has said that piped water will be supplied to tribals and necessary measures will be taken to ensure that well water does not get contaminated.
