Mysuru: The Centre for Information Science and Technology (CIST) in collaboration with Equality Institute for Thought and Action (EITA), Mysore University, had organised a National seminar on ‘Equality and Social Justice in the Era of Globalisation’ at Rani Bahadur auditorium in Manasagangothri here on Monday last as part of the 127th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Inaugurating the programme, University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Sushma Yadav recalled that Ambedkar always hoped to ensure guaranteed employment for all but regretted that globalisation had increased the number of contract employees in the private sector with no job security.
She pointed out that people used to hail Ambedkar for bringing out the Indian Constitution with due reservation for the oppressed class. However, she said that of late the society is coming to learn the contribution of Ambedkar for Finance Commission and Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Mysore University In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof. C. Basavaraju presided. NAAC Member and Director, Society for Social Empowerment, New Delhi, Sudhir Singh and former Indian women’s football team captain Dr. Looke Kumari were the chief guests.
Andhra University School of Chemistry Director Prof. G.S. Murthy, CIST Director Prof. Mahendra Kumar, EITA President Dr. N.C. Sumathi and others were present.
