‘Glorification of one animal is not correct’

Mysore/Mysuru: Noted Kannada littérateur, Prof. Arvind Malagatti said that glorification of only one animal is not correct as the Hindu religion has never categorised cow as the only sacred animal and not other animals.

He was speaking after presenting ‘Kanaka Ratna’ awards on the occasion of Kanaka Jayanthi organised by Mysuru Sharana Mandali at Pathrakartara Bhavan here recently.

He said it was only ‘Vydika Parampara’ which only glorifies one animal and not the Hindu religion which sees God in all living beings. Saint Kanakadasa had seen Godliness in a dog and had hugged it. The meaning behind was to see God in every living things.

He flayed the State Government for its decision that no action should be initiated against the gau rakshaks and said this shows that the Government did not have faith on judiciary and Police. Action must be taken against those who do moral policing in the name of cow protection.

On the occasion, ‘Kanaka Ratna’ award was presented to President of Karnataka Backward Classes Forum K.S. Shivaram, President of District Brahmins Association D.T. Prakash, noted theatre personality Rajashekar Kadamba, social worker J. Puttaswamy and Co-operator M. Puttaswamy.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat Mysuru District President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, former President Maddikere Gopal, Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy State President C. Venkatesh, former Mysuru Zilla Panchayat President K. Marigowda and Mugur Nanjundaswamy were present during the occasion.
