As soon as I returned home, as usual, I picked up Star of Mysore and on seeing the headline ‘God Sees the Truth, But Waits‘ I could not wait to read KBG’s write-up in his Abracadabra column.
I completely agree with KBG’s thoughts on justice and one’s destiny. The article is timely and let us hope there is timely justice for the victim of brutal rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata. This has to be a test case for our judiciary.
I was also probably about 25 when I first read the story by Leo Tolstoy. I was so touched by the heart-wrenching and poignant story that it has remained in my memory for ever.
But I had forgotten the episode where Ivan’s wife suspects her husband of murder. Thank you KBG for recalling this most painful episode. What can be more devastating than unfair suspicion, accusation and judgement by one’s family member?
May I add that in addition to Food, Clothing and Shelter (Roti Kapada Aur Makaan) that everyone considers to be basic necessities of life, we should include Timely Justice which is very much lacking in today’s world.
Incidentally, Gandhiji was so much inspired by the writings of Tolstoy that he named his ashram in South Africa as Tolstoy Farm.
