Gokak like movement needed for implementation of Sadashiva Commission report, says activist

Mysore/Mysuru: Social activist P. Mallesh said that a Gokak-like-movement is necessary for forcing the Government to implement Justice A.J. Sadashiva Commission Report on internal reservation.

He was speaking after releasing the booklet titled ‘Olameesalathi Kurithu Bakalamuni KBS Kone Nudi’ at a programme organised by  Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Studies, Research  and Extension Centre in association with Matanga Sahitya Parishat, Karnataka at Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Studies Centre in Manasagangothri here recently.

Regretting that farmer and dalit movements have lost their strength over the years, Mallesh said Bakalamuni K.B. Siddaiah, who came from a Socialist movement background, was a pioneer of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS).

Pointing out that successive Governments have ignored the recommendations of Sadashiva Commission Report on inner reservation, he said that several stirs have failed in forcing the Government for its implementation. As such a mass movement like the Gokak  Movement of the 1980’s was  needed for waking up the Government on Sadashiva Report implementation, he said and added that only a  tactical movement can achieve success.

Centre Director Prof. K. Sadashiva presided.

Former Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority member Prof. Jayaramaiah, Joint Director of Social Welfare Department N. Muniraju, University of Mysore Syndicate member Dr.M.S. Damodara, Dr.M. Srinivasmurthy and others were present on the occasion.
