Gokulam gets Welcome Arch

Mysore/Mysuru: Decades after it was formed, the city’s Gokulam locality got a welcome arch on Tuesday, with the erection of an arch opposite the ESI Hospital on KRS road.

The arch has been erected at the start of the road that shoots off from KRS road towards Doctors Corner and culminates at Ganapathi temple junction on Contour Road. While the writing on one side of the arch reads ‘Welcome to Gokulam’, the other side reads ‘Thank You’.

The welcome arch has been installed at a cost of Rs. 6.35 lakh and is 24 ft. in height. The arch has gold plated writings.

Area Corporator S.B.M. Manju said that the arch works was executed by contractor Nagesh and the installation has enhanced the beauty of the locality. Pointing out that sanction has been given for erection of a similar welcome arch for Brindavan locality near Basava Stone Statue opposite the PKTB Hospital on KRS Road, he said that the works will be taken up after the tender process is completed.

An arch has already been installed at Kumbarakoppal Toll Gate Circle and Metagalli junction, also on KRS Road, he said and added that once the Brindavan arch is erected, the KRS Road will have four welcome arches.

Three years ago, Vontikoppal, one of the oldest localities of the city, got a welcome arch near Cheluvamba Park.
