Mysore/Mysuru: Marking the 75th birthday of former Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, a Gold Medal has been instituted in Siddharamaiah’s name in University of Mysore (UoM).
Announcing this here on Monday, District Congress President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar said that a Gold Medal/cash prize will be given to a student who pass out 5-year BA, LLB degree securing highest marks in first attempt.
Pointing out that the endowment has been made in the name of ‘Sri Siddharamaiah-75 Amrutha Mahotsava Gold Medal’, he said that the former CM is an alumnus of UoM, completing his LLB from the Varsity and practiced Law before entering politics.
Dr. Vijaykumar further said that the District Congress Committee had passed a resolution in this regard and the institution of the Gold Medal was announced on Monday at the public function organised by the Congress to launch the padayatra at Tagadur in Varuna Assembly segment, as part of 75th year of Independence.
An amount of Rs. 1.05 lakh has been deposited with the UoM for the endowment in the name of Siddharamaiah.
While 80 percent of the interest accrued on the endowment shall be utilised for award of one Gold Medal/Cash prize/Scholarship/arranging endowment lecture called Sri Siddharamaiah -75 Amrutha Mahotsava Chinnada Padaka at the University’s Annual Convocation every year, the remaining 20 percent shall be added to the corpus of the Fund, he said.
In the event of there being more than one student securing equal marks, the prize shall be distributed equally in terms of cash only, he added.
