Good health is not just being free from all ailments and one cannot expect to have endless amounts of energy and vitality throughout the life span. The inner health of a person comprises of both physical and mental health conditions. The quality of the health has a great influence of the immediate surroundings or in other words the place we live. Enjoying good health is about having realistic expectations and treating your body with respect. Most often the expectations from the human body by a person is quite demanding and expected to perform at its full potential irrespective of the way it has been handled.

According to Feng Shui, our whole existence is determined by the five Elements present in our environment as well as our bodies. The five Elements are Earth, Water, Fire, Wood and Metal and all have to be balanced equally in order for us to experience good health. The Earth element is present in the mind and acts as a grounding point for all experience.

Feng Shui perceived the body as a psychophysical system, consisting of a dynamic network of channels. These points are what we call the charkas. In Oriental medicine, there is no such thing as an isolated illness. The fusion of both physical and psychological factors cause disturbance of the body’s inner elemental harmony. What affects the mind, affects the body and vice-versa.

Free-flowing energy which is balanced and healthy reflects the balance and harmony in our mind, body and life, eliminating sickness. On the other hand, when the energy is blocked and stagnating, it creates imbalance, disharmony and will affect everything in its path, including the occu pants of a building.

Observe your habits as you can work out what you expect from your body from how you are using the space immediately around you right now. Take few minutes to consider how you are positioning yourself. Check your surroundings and get to know what you see, where you are sitting. Good posture and comfort are vital to the effective functioning of the physical body. By relating to the spiritual dimension, Feng Shui becomes more relevant to our modern day life. With our demanding, high-pressure lifestyles today, we need ways with which we can enhance and bring in some much-needed balance to our lives which in turn would balance the mental and physical energies.

  • Get more sleep by creating a wonderful place to rest your head at night — for a peaceful and complete sleep, ensure that the bed is in the back corner of the room, diagonally opposite to the door as this protects from fast moving energy entering into the space.
