Good response for Dak Adalat

Senior citizens upset with Post Office service

Mysuru:  Dak Adalat organised by the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Posts, Yadavagiri, at the divisional level used to evoke  poor response. However, for the first time the Adalat being organised at the Regional-level and in the presence of Post Master General from Bengaluru, Rajendra Kumar, it got a good response with nearly 15 complaints registered at the Postal Adalat held at Yadavagiri yesterday.

The senior citizens were upset with the service and some of the complaints included speed post delay, EMO (Electronic Money Order) delay and the behaviour of staff towards them.

One of the complainants N. Alaiah from Kuvempunagar, who himself is a retired Post Master said that it was sad to see the neglect of the senior citizens by the staff at the Post Offices (POs). Most of the POs do not even have seating arrangements for the elderly and they are made to stand for long.

He said that at least on pension day, the staff should see that pensioners are not made to wait for long by settling the accounts fast.

He also pointed out that even though there were advertisements that Post Offices also do enrolment for Aadhaar cards, it is found that they are not doing it.

Another complainant Veer Mohan from Krishnamurthypuram, narrating his experience, remarked that a senior official in the Lakshmipuram Post Office was always behaving very rudely with the customers and he himself had experienced it on a couple of occasions.

For instance, when he had gone to the PO for using speed post facility, the official had the gall to tell him that if he was not prepared to wait he should go to a private courier instead. And in another incidence when he had gone to collect the registered parcel, even though the postman was ready to give him the parcel, the person concerned asked him not to give it as he (Veer Mohan) is a trouble-maker.

The third complainant Kumar from Brindavan Extension was equally upset with the speed post delivery and remarked that there was nothing ‘speedy’ about the post.  He also said that there was big delay in EMO delivery. What in fact should take seconds was actually taking three to four days for the delivery and this delay was inexcusable.

Senior Superintendent of Posts, Mysuru Division N. Prakash was also present.
