Search Engine Giant Google has paid its tributes to Rashtrakavi Kuvempu on his 113th birth anniversary today in the form of a doodle. It shows the poet laureate clad in white kurta and dhoti, with close-cropped grey hair holding a book, writing, sitting on a hillock, called Kavishaila, surrounded by the Sahyadri mountain range, flowing river and his home at Kuppalli in the background. This was the poet’s favourite perch. Even the word Google is in Kannada and when one hovers the mouse on it, it reads, “Kuppalli Venkatappa Puttappa’s 113th birthday.” The doodle is designed by 20-year-old Kolkata-based Upamanyu Bhattacharya, an animator and artist. He is a product of National School of Design, Ahmedabad and is working in Maniratnam’s Madras Talkies.
