Government Schools to get water and power for free

Mysore/Mysuru: In an effort aimed at improving quality  and infrastructure in primary education, the Department of School Education and Literacy, has directed district-level officials of all districts to ensure that Govt. Schools and PU Colleges are supplied water and power for free from the next academic  year (2024-25).

B.H. Girija, Under Secretary to Government (Planning), has issued a circular to the authorities. The circular said that just like Gruha Jyothi Scheme (200 Units of free power monthly to all eligible beneficiaries), the authorities should ensure free power and water to all Govt. Schools and PU Colleges. The money that is spent on water and electricity bills will thus be saved and this can be used for enhancing quality of education and infrastructure in Govt. schools. The Commissioner of the Department of School Education and Literacy and the Director of Pre-University Education should submit district-wise expenses of power and water bills to the Government.

Subsequent to this, the Department of Energy and the Urban Development can submit the expenditure details to the Finance Department to make up for the free supplies, the circular said.
