Government writes to Search Committee for new names to UoM VC post

Mysuru: It is already five months since the names of some of the aspirants for the post of Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore (UoM) had been recommended by the Search Committee headed by former VTU Vice- Chancellor Prof. H. P. Kincha.

It may be recalled, Governor Vajubhai R. Vala had sent back the names recommended by the State Government for UoM and Bangalore University asking them to send fresh names.

According to a source in the University, the Higher Education Department has already written a letter to Prof. Kincha to exclude the names of Prof. N.S. Ashok Kumar of Mass Communication and Journalism, Bangalore University, Prof R.K. Somashekar of Department of Environmental Science, Bangalore University and Prof. C.P. Siddashrama from the Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies who had been shortlisted as their names were rejected by the Governor.

The source said that there are nearly 60 to 70 names still in the list and most of them have applied to both UoM and Bangalore University. Some of the names include Prof. K.S. Raveesha of Botany Department, Prof. H.S.Prakash of Applied Botany, Prof. R. Rajanna of History Department, Prof. Muzzafar Assadi of Political Science Department, Prof. Siddegowda of Social Welfare Department and Prof. Lakshmanswamy of UVCE, Bangalore University.

It is learnt that Prof. Kincha has written to the other Search Committee members calling for a meeting at the earliest.
