Bengaluru: Even as the demand for raising the reservation quota for SC,ST communities is growing by the day, the State Government on Wednesday said that it was forming a Cabinet Sub-Committee to look into the issue.
Speaking to presspersons after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Law Minister J.C.Madhuswamy said that the Sub-Committee will be formed in a week and the Chief Minister will decide on its members. Noting that there has been a long-standing demand for a hike in reservation quota for SC,ST communities, he said that the Government is forming the Sub-Committee based on the recommendation of Justice Nagmohan Das Committee Report.
Pointing out that there is a demand for hiking the SC reservation quota from the present 13 percent to 15 percent and ST reservation quota from 5 to 7 percent, Madhuswamy said that the Government will consider raising the reservation based on the Cabinet Sub-Committee’s report.
Vijayanagar to be 31st district of State
Madhuswamy further said that Vijayanagar district will be formed by carving Ballari district. Pointing out that Vijayanagar district will be the 31st district of the State, he said that the new district is likely to have 5-6 taluks.
