Mysore/Mysuru: “The State Government should come up with a policy that allows Ayurveda practitioners to perform surgery”, said SDM Ayurveda Institutions Director Dr. Prasanna N. Rao.
He was speaking at the valedictory of the two-day International conference on “Intersecting Nutrition, Lifestyle Medicine and Sustainable Health Care” organised by Cauvery Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital with the theme ‘Ahara Vihara- Arogya Vichara’ at SDM-IMD premises on Chamundi Hill Road here yesterday.
Pointing out that the Union Government in 1970 allowed Ayurveda doctors to perform surgeries in Shalya, Shalakhya and Prasooti Tantras, Dr. Prasanna said that Ayurveda practitioners in the State should get united for seeking permission from the Government for performing surgeries. The elected representatives too should extend their support for this, he added.
Noting that the Union Government has introduced AYUSH Visa, he said that this Visa will enable Ayurveda doctors to serve in countries where there are opportunities.
Stating that there are many schemes for establishment of Hospitals, he called upon the Ayurveda practitioners to make full use of all available opportunities. He further said that Ayurveda doctors too should be covered under the Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Medicare Service Personnel and Damage to Property in Medicare Service Institutions Act.
MLA T.S. Srivatsa and England’s Ayurveda academic expert Dr. Vijayendra S. Murthy too spoke on the occasion.
Former Special officer of AYUSH Department Dr. N. Anjaneyamurthy was conferred with ‘Cauvery Ayurveda Guru Tilaka’ award and Sirsi’s Government Ayurveda Hospital Medical Officer Dr. Jagadish Vishnuyaji was conferred with ‘Cauvery Ayurveda Vaidya Shreshta’ award on the occasion. Also, ‘Rasashastra Yevam Bhaishajyakalpanaa’, a book written by Dr. H.K. Anuroopa and Dr. V.S. Sharma was released.
